Almost Southern: Don’t go to Omaha

Take a look at this list if you need a semi-fun place to go on vacation.

There is one day until spring break, and I could not be more excited. I hope you guys are pumped too, and if you’re not, there’s probably something wrong with you.

Anyway, in honor of spring break, I am going to let y’all know about the places I’ve been in the past. They either rock or suck, and hopefully this will help you out if you ever want to go to any of these places.

NEW ORLEANS
Rating: solid 6.7/10

I have a love hate relationship with this city. I went this past summer and I also went in fifth grade. This city is absolutely gorgeous, but there are a few downsides. First of all, there are so many unknown substances littering the sidewalks. For real, I did not know what they were. Every night, people come out after the bars close and rinse the vomit off the streets. It’s sketch. Another negative aspect is that it is so incredibly unsafe. There are signs up in the French Quarter that tell you you need to be walking in a large group in certain areas. You also have to step over high people on the sidewalks because they simply do not give a crap if they take a quick nap in the middle of the street.

However, like I said before, this place is a beauty. You just have to get past the nasty factor and the outrageously hot and humid weather. It also has Bourbon Street, so if you’re into partying, that’s a good place for you to go.

CHICAGO
Rating: 7/10

I give this city a seven because it is a friendly, bigger version of Kansas City with dope pizza and a large lake. I don’t remember much of Chicago because there honestly wasn’t that much to remember, besides the deep dish pizza and the bitterly cold winds. If you want a slightly quicker pace than KC, Chicago is the place for you.

OMAHA
Rating: .5/10

Notice that I rated this a .5, not a 5. Yes, a solid half of a point. I hate Omaha more than anything. It is the worst city in America. The only saving grace Omaha has is its zoo and this cute little homemade ice cream shop they have. There is absolutely nothing to do there. I have been there twice, and neither have been pleasant visits. I was ten the first time I went there, and I went for spring break (#rage). My sister got hit by a car when we were walking through the parking lot to get to the zoo, if that says anything about our trip. The second time was August of junior year for a soccer tournament. I honestly don’t understand why this city was built the way it is. It’s confusing and they built more streets than they needed. Like, do you seriously need a sixteen-lane highway? No. No you do not.

If you want to be thoroughly bored to death, go ahead and take a trip to Omaha. At least you can chill with at the zoo.

BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA
Rating: 9/10

Man, I loved this place. It’s a small beach town that has so many cute houses and shops. It’s probably like every other beach town in America, but this is one of the only ones I’ve been to so I’m partial. Give it a look if you want a relaxing vacation.

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA
Rating: 7/10

Every single dang road in this city is a highway. That’s an issue for me because I can’t drive on the highway. However, they have pretty trees, cool restaurants, and cute shops. They also have more hiking and outdoors options than we do. Another con is that this city is impossible to navigate. Normally, if I’m staying in the same area in a city for a couple days, I can find my way around. That did not happen in Raleigh. This place is like suburban Leawood on steroids in terms of poor navigation.

COLORADO
Rating: 10/10

I love Colorado more than anything. It is my happy place. I love skiing, I love the mountains, and the people are chill as heck (that’s probably because of a certain newly legal substance, but whatever). It is the ultimate vacation spot. You can literally do anything besides go to the beach. I hate the beach, so that’s not a problem. But seriously, if you’ve never been to Colorado, you need to go.

COSTA RICA
Rating: ?/10

I’ll let you guys know when I get back.

Overall, I’d say you should go to all of these places once in your life. And yes, I even mean Omaha. You should see their zoo because it’s actually pretty great. Other than that, Omaha is a terrible city. The rest of the places are cool, though. Anyways, have a fabulous spring break, Stars! Be safe, have fun, and make good choices!
