Quik life

Quik+life

by Adrianna Ohmes

Sept. 22.

After several late night conversations with my friends on whether a person could survive on QuikTrip alone and living in the KC-metro area for my entire life, I feel I’m adequately prepared to take this challenge at 17 years of age. If anything, this is pre-conditioning for college. So here I am, planning to live off of QuikTrip for the next week. That is correct, starting tomorrow morning I will only eat from QuikTrip until next Saturday.

Initially I was tempted to make the challenge me getting everything I’d need in the next week from QuikTrip. Although QuikTrip has toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, lotions and everything else that I might need in my everyday life besides electricity, gas, water and cable/wi-fi/cell service, I realized I’m a 17 year old girl.

I don’t have the money to actually live in QuikTrip.

So, this week I’ll journal about my QuikTrip experiences: what I bought, people’s reactions, and how long it takes the workers to realize I’ve come in everyday.

I only live 1.1 miles from a QuikTrip. I think that tells you how often I already go there.

Sept. 23

breakfast 20 oz cup Mighty Mocha cappuccino mixed with some French Vanilla

lunch turkey and swiss sandwich, and a bag of chips

dinner bottle of Coke, two pepper jack taquitos, and a chicken and swiss sandwich

Day one of the challenge is over, and I’d say it went relatively well.

I’ve decided that I like sleep and buying my breakfast and lunch the night before I need it sounds like a good plan, so tonight I bought my dinner as well as enough food for my first two meals tomorrow. I received a couple questionable looks while doing this. It was quite a bit to carry because QuikTrip doesn’t have conveniently placed baskets to help me hold my items.

Thankfully, a kind hipster saw that I was on the verge of losing it all and let me cut her in line. If I knew her name I’d be giving her a huge shout out, but we were only passing strangers. (Wait, there’s hipsters in Independence?)

The cashier just kind of shook his head at me and chuckled at my arms full of food. I’ll take that. I probably looked a little odd considering everyone else in line was buying one fountain or bottled drink. The cashier did get a little flirty with me after handling my purchases though, and I wasn’t positive how to feel about that since I was in a Catholic schoolgirl uniform.

Tip to my fellow STA sisters, the kindness of strange men only goes so far when you’re wearing your uniform.

Sept. 24

breakfast Zero Carb Rockstar

lunch a strawberry yogurt parfait, and puppy chow

dinner sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit, rest of puppy chow

The workers were all different today, but I got to eat some pretty good stuff. I liked the QT’s puppy chow quite a bit. I’ve also been craving breakfast foods and the magical refrigerated section of the QT has their breakfast sandwiches all day long

Sept. 25

breakfast Special K protein bar in strawberry

lunch a chicken salad wrap

dinner chicken, bacon and cheese biscuit

Before my evening trip yesterday, I found a Wally World card, which for the uneducated is a reloadable QuikTrip gift card, in my wallet. (I’m fairly certain it was from Mrs. Drummond from fall of junior year! Thank you again!)

They were all new employees today, so the security cameras may be the only things that know I’ve been there everyday. That doesn’t change the fact that half of the customers around me always seem frustrated that I have so many items on me that a bag is needed to carry it all.

Clearly they do not understand that I must obey this diet. For science clearly.

Sept. 26

breakfast donut holes and Sparkling Ice

lunch berry blend of fruit, cheese stick, chips

dinner sausage and egg griddle sandwich, 32oz of black mango sweetened iced tea

dessert Chubby Hubby Ben and Jerry’s

Hey, I have a Fast paper to write. I need emotional and mental support from two of my favorite men. Also, when I have cravings to eat breakfast food for dinner every night, I will indulge that craving. And QuikTrip’s been out of salads the last couple days I’ve gone but I’ve been wanting one too.

Still different workers who didn’t know me today.

Sept. 27.

breakfast trail mix and my 20 oz mighty mocha/french vanilla cappuccino

lunch a sausage and pepperoni calzone (for frozen food the bread was surprisingly delicious)

dinner a Santa Fe Salad with chicken and some more trail mix, also a 32 oz of Coke

I finally saw someone who had worked when I was there during the week! Yay! I doubt they recognized me but I recognized them. The salad, though expensive, was pretty good. The calzone was actually way better than I’d expected and I’d definitely recommend it to any girls in a pinch to find a good delicious lunch.

So I’ve come to the conclusion, you can live off QuikTrip. Though expensive and over-processed they have plenty of variety.

Delightful! Your ending about being expensive and over-processed is correct but you really had variety.

I love your humor! I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!
