Students should clean up lunch trash

by Rosie Hutchison

This might be a stretch, but I think eating is a popular activity at this school.

However, the Commons (our designated eating space) has become an unpleasant place for doing so. This is because girls leave their lunch trash for the next unlucky students who like to sit at that table. It mostly happens with the same juniors and freshmen every day, and the same seniors and sophomores who eat after them become very upset. And it’s scary. There are so many reasons why students should find it in their hearts to throw away their trash, and here are a few:

Reason 1: You would think that by now I wouldn’t be scared of any seniors. That is false. I am very much intimidated by a handful of our fearless leaders, and it doesn’t help when they yell at me for someone else’s trash mess. I’m always the last one to gather my belongings and leave my table, which means I’m the first one to face the wrath of upset seniors. So please, help a sister out and pick up your trash so I don’t have to.

Reason 2: There aren’t that many excuses not to. We all learned this common courtesy in pre-school and hopefully practiced it in the years to follow. If anyone tries to tell me that they never learned to clean up after themselves, I don’t even know what to say. Except that you’re probably lying.

Reason 3: It’s not hard labor. Trash doesn’t weigh very much. So unless you pack your lunch in a concrete box, you are fully expected to muster up the strength to carry your empty paper sack or JoJo’s box to the trash can. If you do pack your lunch in a concrete box… why would you ever do that?

So please, make Saint Teresa proud. Help out your dear neighbor and pick up your trash so they can take their lunch to nom town in comfort.
