Pepto-Bismol, a co-ed high school soccer team with hot pink uniforms, is part of the recreational Brookside Soccer League. The team is comprised of 17 players from five different schools: St. Teresa’s Academy, Rockhurst High School, Bishop Miege, Norte Dame de Sion, and Shawnee Mission East and is coached by parent Diane Hirner. They have a game each weekend at the Swope Park soccer complex, and usually go out to celebrate afterward. As of now in the season, they have lost two games and tied one. Like many other participants in the league, the team’s main focus is to have fun with their friends while playing soccer in a non-competitive, fun environment.

Everyone talks about the Varsity soccer team but what about the JV soccer team? The JV soccer team is made up of one junior, nine sophomores and eight freshmen. The team has a fairly short season with 15 games and some of them being cancelled due to weather. Their head coach is Marci Salzman and their goal keeper’s coach is Alex Waite.

The Stars’ varsity soccer team played in the Heart of American Tournament April 6. The team beat Bishop Kelly 3-1 in the championship game. The varisty squad defeated the second ranked team in the country. Junior Savannah Trujillo was named MVP of the tournament as well.

The Brazil Brookside soccer team has 22 members from various high schools, including STA, Notre Dame de Sion, Rockhurst High School, Bishop Miege High School, and various public high schools in the Kansas City area. The coach is Todd Barrett, who also has a daughter from Sion on the team. The team practices once a week and has games on the weekends at the Swope Park soccer fields.

St.Teresa’s Academy is known for their athletics. One of the most competitive sports is soccer. In the soccer program, there are three teams: varsity, JV, and “C” team. STA’s C team consists of 20 freshmen and 2 manages. The only C team soccer coach Luke Harman is from Ireland and formerly played soccer at University of Missouri, Kansas City. The team practices five days a week after school from 3:15 until 5 p.m. to prepare themselves for their games throughout the season.

Every year as spring comes around, there are 3 sport tryouts: lacrosse, track, and finally, soccer. Although many girls come for the tryout, only some make the team. Soccer consists of three teams: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman. The Stars Freshman soccer team has 20 girls, including the managers and the coach, Luke Harman. The team practices five days a week after school in preparation for their games every season.
