Meet the senior airbands

Meet+the+senior+airbands
compiled by Sara-Jessica Dilks

Student Community Organization (SCO) will host the annual STA Christmas Dance in the Goppert Center Dec. 8, which is open to all grades. Each year, seniors are given the opportunity to participate in the “Airbands” dance-off contest, in which groups of up to ten students perform a choreographed dance onstage in front of the Christmas dance attendees. With less than a week away, the airbands are perfecting and rehearsing their routines, planning coordinating outfits and creating soundtracks. Whichever group receives the most applause from the audience is deemed the winning airband. Read on to meet the 2012 senior airband participants!

Group 1

Name: Women’s Revival

Members: Stephanie Allee, Samantha Adams, Phyleia Battle, Madeline Barth, Becca Lueke, Margoth Mackey, Grace McCarthy, Danni Porter, Kelly Stokes, Katie Wilhelmus

A song you’ll hear: “Well, we put some awesome throwbacks in there, so you may be hearing some ‘Do it to it’ [by Cherish],” Margoth Mackey said.

What should you expect: “You all should expect some mind blowing moves with great music, and you will want to get up and dance with us,” Mackey said.

Why they think they should win: “Well we should win because we’re the best and we’re cute…[just kidding],” Mackey said. “But we worked really hard and have the passion to win.”

Group 2

Name: The Spice Girls, AKA Total Sass Domination

Members: Andie Drummond, Sammy Patterson, Sara Meurer, Erin Thompson, Caroline Fiss

A song you’ll hear: “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls

What you should expect: “People just need to realize that we have the two dance team captains in our group,” Meurer said. “So like, watch out.”

“The audience should expect nothing less than perfection,” Drummond said. “The Spice Girls have everything from mind blowing stunts to killer solos. We’re basically STA’s very own mash-up of the Pussycat Dolls, Spice Girls and Cheetah Girls. We are the whole package.”

Why they think they should win: “My group is the epitome of sass,” Drummond said. “Despite countless hours of yelling at each other to focus, we have pulled it together to make the best senior airband.”

 Group 3

Name: Bad Habits

Members: Caroline Green, Grace Hodes, Sarah Kane, Mickey Redlingshafer, Maggie Rellihan, Whitney Waeckerle

A song you’ll hear: “I can’t say. It’s all a mystery,” Redlingshafer said.

What you should expect: “Just get ready to have your mind blown,” Redlingshafer said.

“Just expect the unexpected,” Maggie Rellihan said.

Why they think they should win: “Because we’re the prettiest,” Redlingshafer said. “And because we have a secret weapon,” Grace Hodes added.

 Group 4

Name: Frankenbox

Members: Mackenzie Carter, Mattie Davis, Mary Heiman, Sarah Kostoryz, Erin Rasmussen, Nikki Rodriguez, Elaine Schmidt, Serenity Wallace

A song you’ll hear: “All I Do is Win” by DJ Khaled [featuring T. Pain, Rick Ross and Ludacris]

What should you expect: “#winning!” Elaine Schmidt said.

Why they think they should win: “We are really, really ridiculously talented,” Schmidt said.

 Group 5

Name: Homeland Security

Members: Elizabeth Arensburg, Megan Burke, Jane Evans, Peyton Gajan, Rosie Hutchison, Kathleen Keaveny, Maggie Kenney, Emma Rebein, Madi Schieber, Grace Scovell

A song you’ll hear: “Mary Did You Know” by Clay Aiken

What should you expect: “The audience should expect us to take care of business,” Emma Rebein said.

Why they think they should win: “Well, because we make history happen. . .” Rebein said.

Group 6

Name: Give Zero

Members: Caitlin Fletcher, Sarah Vickery, Jackie McGee, Alex Jackson, Kelly Jenks, Sadie Duffy, Grace Doran

A song you’ll hear: “Never Say Never” by Justin Bieber

What you should expect: “I think the audience will think it’s amazing. It’s poppy and it’s poppin’,” Fletcher said. “Since I’m on dance team, you should expect some really serious moves. Just kidding, I’m not actually on dance team.”

“The audience should expect a lot of big stunts and incredible boy band-ish dancing,” Grace Doran said.

Why they think they should win: “First of all, I’m in it,” Fletcher said. “Second of all, it’s just better than everyone else’s [dance routine], so if someone else won, it would be kind of ridiculous. We took our time with making up the choreography, and we’re not finished just yet.”

“My group should win because our music, dancing, and style is completely different… and better… than all of the other groups,” Doran said.
