My Fair City: Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Parade

by Cara McClain

I have worked at the lovely New Dime Store in Brookside for just about three years now, and every year my favorite day to work is the Saturday of the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

On face value, working that afternoon sounds horrible. Crowds of people, most who don’t buy anything and just come in to use the public restroom. Absolutely no parking in a five block radius. Clowns in the parade. Seemingly terrible, right?

I don’t know, for some reason I just love this day. Maybe it is for the hour and a half break I get to watch the parade pass with everyone else. Maybe it’s for the free candy people in the parade toss to the crowd. Maybe it’s just my love for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.

Anyway. You should come to the parade! It starts at 2:00 on Saturday. The theme is “Leapin’ Leprechauns,” so that reason alone should make you want to come, right?
