Sister, Sister: Our Childhood Bands

Sister, Sister: Our Childhood Bands

By Allison and Natalie Fitts

Everyone has a childhood dream of being a rock star. Unlike most children, we put those dreams into actions by forming two bands. Allison formed a band with grade school friend Kim Reichert named KAblue. Natalie created a band with Emily Wemhoff called Eaze. Allison will write in orange and Natalie will write in blue.

Back in sixth grade I got an acoustic guitar and began taking lessons. However, before I attended any lessons, Kim and I would just take turns violently strumming the strings of my new guitar. The product of this nonsense: our first song, “Paper Towel Roll”. The name stems from, you guessed it, a paper towel roll that was on my kitchen counter at the time. Inspiring!

Honestly, their songs were a bit painful to listen to. Eaze, mine and Emily’s band, was much more sophisticated. Eaze all got started when Emily and I were in fourth grade. Originally, our band was named Ease, but we thought changing the “s” to a “z” would make it a little more funky. Our first hit, “Millennium 3000” was inspired by my shirt from a dance recital called “Millennium 2000” (Again, we changed it for the funkiness factor) that I had performed in.

My favorite part of this video is its authenticity. I mean a real toilet flush? Genius.

From there, we just kept writing hit after hit (and awesome video after awesome video). Some highlights include “Summer on my Mind,” “Signature (Ball Point Pen),” and “Hollywood.” We even added a new member: Grace Geiger. We got so popular, we had to hold a concert in my backyard for family and friends. We hired Allison as our pyrotechnic manager. The smoke bombs she set off one at a time really added to the whole concert atmosphere.

As”special FX manager” of the Eaze concert, I worked my tail of making the smoke bombs spectacular. For my first time using a lighter, I think I did pretty well.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, we were an entirely a Capella band. Except for the times when we could find preset songs on my keyboard and make up lyrics to those on the spot. That being said, please enjoy “Island Man.”

Allison and I have long discussed forming an electronic band. Neither of us can sing, and the electronic genre community is highly accepting of auto tune. Also, only Allison knows how to play the guitar. I mean, I can can play the snare drum, but I don’t know how much good that will do us. Therefore, the use of computer mixing will be of assistance to us.

Don’t discredit us too much. We also both play the recorder. Also, since this blog post definitely took a turn in the Eaze direction, I will leave you with one last piece of KAblue genius: our album cover. It had everything you’d ever want in an album cover. Pictures of long toe nails, square watermelons and the boy who played Peter in the Chronicles of Narnia.

I’ll leave you to vomit at the sight of that picture.

Be sure to check us out on the Huffington Post High School here. Next week, we will have our November Sister Shoutout featuring Sydney and Lucy Edmonds! And get pumped for December–we will be writing multiple blogs about the awesomeness of Christmas!

Which band would you like to see reunite more?

Oh Eaze…bringin back St. Chucks mems. I’m a little disappointed you didn’t talk about our lip syncing band at your 4th grade birthday party. Is there a video of us performing our one hit wonder “Yeah” (originally performed by Usher)?

    Natalie and Emily,
First of all, let me congratulate you on some very progressive and forward-thinking dance moves. Natalie, you were whipping your hair probably before Willow Smith was even born, and Emily, from 0:23 to 0:29… it’s just inspiring. Repeat performance next publication night? I think yes.
    Well done.
