In many cultures, an afternoon nap is a part of every day. A scheduled time to rest allows for attentiveness throughout the day and reduces evening drowsiness. Naps can have psychological benefits, such as feelings of relaxation or rejuvenation.
According to the Sleep Foundation, a brief 20 to 30 minute nap improves “alertness and performance.” As an alternative to caffeine, an occasional “siesta” will leave you more awake without crashing.
A quick nap after school can help to refocus before beginning the piles of homework. For those girls in sports or after school jobs, try for a short rest during an afternoon free! But remember: anymore than 30 minutes can cause drowsiness.
Some people associate napping with laziness, but ignore the stigma! You shouldn’t have to be sick to allow yourself a midday rest. So take a nap! And tell me in the comments if you notice any differences!
