Roseblog: An Introduction

By Kate Rohr
Do you like movies?

So do I.

However, ‘like’ is a little bit of an understatement. I adore movies. I worship them. I procrastinate for countless hours with them and never regret it. I spend entire weekends wedged between the cushions of my couch watching one after another. I rack up late fees at the few remaining Blockbusters like you wouldn’t believe.

But I have a dilemma – I don’t have a favorite film! It’s the first question in every “get to know you” ice breaker I’ve ever undergone, and yet I don’t have a good answer.

So here’s the purpose of this blog: to discover my favorite movie. Maybe it’s a movie I’ve seen before but need to see again, or maybe it’s one I’ve never heard of. But I will find it. I’ll be asking students, teachers and YOU to give me suggestions of movies to watch or re-watch, and I’ll tell you what I think. By the end of the year, I hope to finally have my answer after watching dozens of movies under the pretense of doing homework.

So why Roseblog, you may ask? If you’ve ever seen “Citizen Kane” you should be able to guess. But if not, ‘Roseblog’ is a reference to one of the most famous quotes from one of the most celebrated American films of all time, “Citizen Kane.” Don’t worry, I’ll be reviewing it in a couple of posts. So stay tuned!

“I Heart Huckabees”, “The Truman Show”, “Pretty Woman”. (You already know my other favorites, so these are in addition to).

Some of my suggestions for movies are “127 Hours”, “Into the Wild”, and “Iron Giant”. The last one is classic childhood.
