Sister, Sister: Fashion Sense

Sister, Sister: Fashion Sense

By Allison and Natalie Fitts

Like many sisters, we have differing senses of fashion. When we were very little, our mom dressed us in matching outfits.

As we got older and began dressing ourselves, our personal styles were revealed. Allison being the tomboy, and Natalie taking the role of girly fashionista.

Ok, obviously Natalie wrote the last part of the intro, even though it’s technically by both of us. I will admit to having a tomboyish style when I was younger, but at times your style was definitely over the top.

I don’t have a lot to say about that photo, but muffs were definitely in at the time. At least I didn’t make a failing attempt to be stylish like Allison seen here.

That blouse was not my favorite if I remember correctly, but overalls are always a welcome addition to any wardrobe. In my opinion, these 2 pictures reflect rare parts of our fashion ventures. I rarely wore overalls and Natalie rarely wore muffs. My real style was defined by comfortable (mostly boys’) clothes. This meant t-shirts, elastic waistband shorts, baseball hats, and velcro sandals.

On the other hand, my wardrobe consisted of dresses, tights, headbands, stick-on earrings, and plastic jewelry. On my preschool report card, my teacher noted I was her most fashionable (aka awesome) student. Every day before school, I insisted on wearing a necklace, a bracelet, and a ring. Even when I was wearing pants and/or a t-shirt, I jazzed it up somehow, as seen in this picture, with the tied shirt and cute capris:

My only downfall in this outfit was that my shirt was buttoned up all the way, despite my mom urging me not to.

I am surprised that it was you with the all the way up buttoning, because I usually had that slick, formal style (see shirt tucked in).

I think you mean you usually had the dorkier style, but whatever… I was always willing to let my exquisite style show through, even when everyone else was wearing tank tops and matching shorts.

This picture of us and Nicole, Emily and Jon Wemhoff (all STA girls except the latter) really exemplifies how you cared too much about your outfits.  The rest of us are wearing t-shirts and shorts, but what else would you expect on a trip to the farm? I can’t vouch for Nicole regarding the all yellow ensemble, but my Lake of the Ozark outlet store t-shirt is one-of-a-kind and highly durable.  Comfort over cuteness has always been my personal philosophy; it might even be my senior quote, but it will be a last minute call between that and “I’m on the edge of glory” – Lady GaGa.

Now here’s a quick glimpse at our middle (awkward) years.  I’m sorry you have to see these atrocious get-ups.

As we’ve aged, our styles have continually grow more similar.  Natalie is now less extravagent with accessorizing, and Allison has become a girl.  We both enjoy comfort, but respect the value of style when the need arises.
