Bored on this snow day?

Bored on this snow day?

Remember when you used to live for snow days?

When you’d be so excited at 6 in the morning when your mom came in to tell you that there was no school that you could not possible fall back asleep. When you’d spend practically the whole day building a fort in your front yard. When you’d compact misshapen clumps of snow into ammunition for a snowball fight with your neighbors.

Sweet, right? Unfortunately I cannot claim that as my own creation.

When you’d decorate your yard with snow angels. When you’d ask one of your parents for some buttons, a long carrot , two sticks resembling arms, a hat and a scarf for a snowman. When you’d come back inside finally and have a cup of hot chocolate and wait until your fingers regained some feeling.

This morning when my dad came in my room at 6:07, I (as I am sure many others did too) welcomed the snow day by falling back asleep until a more reasonable hour like 10.

After admiring the blanket of snow covering my street, yard and car, I thought about what I wanted to do today.

Hmmm…

Building a snow fort didn’t seem like much of an option.

Neither did finishing the homework I put off for my frees I would have had this morning.

What to do?

Well, when I usually have a chunk of free time, I follow a usual pattern of web surfing:

1. Facebook (as shallow/pathetic/addicted/whatever as that is)

2. Check my email

3. Check my horoscope

4. Sporcle

5. Stumbleupon

At this last one, I “stumbled upon” something that will occupy my time today.

This website called Stereo Mood captured what I have been trying to do with my iTunes for about 6 months. It organizes songs into different mood playlists. You can listen to anything organized from Lost in Thought to Just Woke Up to Sunday Morning to Busy as a Bee.

So while my little brother Charlie shovels (A short while after I rolled out of bed, Charlie bragged about his productive morning, “3 driveways. 4 walkways. 25 bucks.”) and bundled up kids make snow creations, I’ll stay warm inside finding new music, sipping hot chocolate and watching this snow come down.

I love snow days.
