Best ways to celebrate Halloween

Treat giveaway

Description: Free candy give away for trick or treaters

Location: Russell Stover candy store at 2814 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, Kan.

Date: Oct. 31

Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Brookside Trick or Treat Street

Description: Over 50 stores in the Brookside shopping district will be handing out candy to costumed trick-or-treaters. To see if a store is participating in the event, check for a ghost hanging from the shop doorway. All stores with ghosts will be handing out candy.

Location: 63rd street

Date: Oct. 31

Time: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Darkness Haunted House, The Beast, Creepyworld, Edge of Hell

Description: These Missouri haunted houses made HauntWorld Magazine’s list of the top 31 haunted attractions in the country. Darkness is listed as number 3, The Beast is number 6, Creepyworld is 18 and Edge of Hell is 27.

Location: The Darkness Haunted House and Creepyworld are located in St. Louis, MO, and The Beast and Edge of Hell are in Kansas City.

Cost: Single tickets for The Beast and Edge of Hell are approximately $23 Sunday through Thursday and approximately $27 on Fridays and Saturdays. Darkness adult tickets cost $35 and Creepyworld adult tickets cost $20. A $35 combination ticket is available that covers both houses.

Boorito 2010: The Horrors of Processed Food

Description: Instead of their usual Halloween tradition of giving free burritos to customers dressed as a menu item, Chipotle is partnering with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution to raise awareness about “the horrors of processed food.” Any customer dressed as a processed food can get a burrito for $2. The first $1 million raised will benefit Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Location: Any Chipotle restaurant

Date: Oct. 31

Time: 6 p.m. to closing time

Food for Thought

Description: Community service club as well as other STA volunteers will be collecting food items and monetary donations to benefit families in need. Any monetary donations raised will go toward the purchase of diapers and other baby supplies. Anyone interested in participating should get a permission slip available on the door of Ms. Betsy Hansbrough’s room.

Location: The collection will take place in the Brookside and Waldo area, but volunteers will be meeting in the Commons at STA.

Date: Oct. 31

Time: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Halloween Haunt

Description: Worlds of Fun is putting on several themed haunted houses including: Asylum Island, Bloodshed, CarnEvil, Club Blood, Corn Stalkers, Dominion of Doom, Fright Zone, Lore of the Vampire, Master McCarthy’s Doll Factory and Outlaws Revenge.

Location: Worlds of Fun

Date: Sept. 18 through Oct. 31

Time: The haunted houses are open from 8 p.m. to closing time on Fridays and Saturdays and on Oct. 28 and 31.

Cost: The haunted houses do not have a separate ticket cost. Just pay Worlds of Fun admission costs to get in. Ticket costs for Friday or Saturday evenings (after 4 p.m.) are $29.01. All day tickets for any day of the week cost $39.76.
