On the topic of college basketball’¦
I was recently up in Lawrence visiting a few friends who go to KU. We were at a pretty big Sigma Chi rush party, when three very tall, very big African-American guys walked in. These men weren’t dressed special and didn’t look out of the ordinary (besides their height); yet, a significant amount of people at the party flocked to them to take pictures and just simply get a word in with them. Forgive me for not immediately recognizing these people, but they were members of the KU basketball team: Thomas Robinson, Elijah Johnson, and Tyshawn Taylor.
Once I figured what all the hype was about, I’m not going to lie, I joined in with the flock of fans (even though I’m not even a fan). I guess me and my friends are what is called ‘jersey-chasers’Â in Lawrence.
Exhibit A: Madeline O’Rear with and one of the Morris twins (they look too much alike to tell apart) and Thomas Robinson.
ÂÂ
Afterwards, a KU graduate told me that these KU basketball players are like gods in Lawrence and can get away with whatever they want, be it creeping, being impolite, or even ‘killing someone.’Â Maybe she exaggerated a little, but whatever the case, I can’t decide whether I am embarrassed that I was a jersey-chaser or if I am proud to now have Thomas Robinson’s number in my contacts list.

Hahaha! This is great. Taylor, do you remember KU Journalism camp sophomore year? We made some basketball player friends and got their numbers. Madeline…hahha
