Listen to this podcast hosted by Cara McClain, Abby Uche, Lauren Langdon and Adrianna Ohmes as they discuss some of the fashion trends of their childhood. Leave a comment below with any anecdotes about trends you followed as a youth.

(The song in the podcast is “Fashion” by David Bowie.)

Cara’s Top Ten Trends

1. Livestrong bracelets or any rubber bracelet with some words inscribed in it. The more stacked on your wrist the better.

2. Polos. If you were really cool, then you’d double your polos preferably in colors like light pink and turquois.

3. Black and pink anything. Then later pink and brown anything (I may or may not have had a pair of pink and brown Vans. So embarrassing.)

4. Chokers. See the Dart Board in Mr. Thomas’s room for a picture of Hannah Wolf and me as a reference.

5. Ponchos. One Christmas, my mom bought all of my sisters and me ponchos. Mine was rainbow.

6. Really long ribbed and tight tank tops. American Eagle and Hollister were drowning in them circa 2007.

7. Crocs. Why were those cool?

8. Plastic headbands. Couldn’t get enough of them.

9. Victoria Secret Pink Sweatpants. This trend has stuck around for a while now.

10. (Progression of cute, casual shoes) Converse → Keds → Toms

Adrianna and Lauren’s List

  1. Uggs. Can you say uggly?
  2. Rocket Dogs- Gladiator Sandals- DC’s. All the shoes we thought were cool as kids.
  3. Socks and Sandals
  4. Knee high socks. They come and go.
  5. Pretty Pretty Princess. Dress up for little girls, we took the princess thing too serious.
  6. Crop tops– exposing all the glory
  7. Gauchos– loose pants that swayed in the wind, a lot.
  8. Strecthy Pants– in all those different colors, especially those hot pink ones
  9. Skinny Jeans. The less you could feel your legs, the cooler you were.
  10. Acid wash, distressed, boot cut, and colored jeans
  11. Leggings
  12. Mini Skirts with thigh high boots
  13. Scrunchies. Rocked that look, thanks mom.
  14. Bandanas. Biker or redneck, it doesn’t matter.
  15. Trucker Hats– the “hickier” the better
  16. Beanies
  17. Bangles. The more you had the more popular you were.
  18. Slap Bracelets. All the rage in the 90’s and their making their way back.
  19. Bobs and flat ironing. Our short hair was as straight as it could be, until 2nd period.
  20. Side bangs
  21. Pea Coats– all the rage
