Luca Bagels: This new bagel place in Brookside is definitely worth the hype. Every time I drive by, there are lines all the way outside the door, with dozens of people waiting to place orders.
I visited Luca Iast month and found it’s well worth the hype.
I got a plain toasted bagel with plain cream cheese. The bagel was toasted and the cream cheese was rich, flavorful and easy to spread across the bagel.
In addition to doing the basics right, Luca offers special and unique options, such as a cheddar serrano bagel. The Jersey-style bagel was a option that I haven’t had before and there were a variety of cream cheese flavors as well. The only note I would give is that these bagels are on the pricier side, but this is definitely somewhere you should stop by and try. I give this a 9.5/10.
Meshuggah’s Bagels: This local bagel shop in Kansas City definitely didn’t disappoint. The welcoming atmosphere of the store made the experience that much better and there are four location across Kansas and Missouri.
I got a plain bagel with plain cream cheese here as well, and it was very good. Some bagel flavors that are unique to Meshuggah’s are Rye and Bialy bagels. The only negative I have to say about is that it just didn’t live up to the taste of Luca Bagel’s, so that is why it comes in second place, but still it is very delicious. This get’s a 9/10.
Einstein Bros Bagels: This chain bagel place has been around Kansas City for many years and has eight locations throughout the metro area.
I went to Einstein bagel and asked for a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese. While it was delicious, the bagel it was not toasted at all. Also the cream cheese was on the thicker side, making it more difficult to spread on the bagels.
However, there was a variety of bagel flavors to choose from and the service was very good. In addition the bagels were very affordable.
Something unique that Einstein Bagel’s offers are doggy bagels for our canine friends, as well as morning mocktails, cookies and muffins. Overall, I give this a 8.5/10.
