The debate team competed in a parliamentary debate at Rockhurst High School last Wednesday, Sept. 19. The students competed as partners with another member of the team, and 13 sets of partners competed in the debate.

The debate was divided into two rounds, and the topics that were debated included whether or not there should be term limits for Supreme Court Justices, as well as whether or not free college and trade school should be provided for all in the United States. No STA teams medaled at this debate.

This year is sophomore Cara Barone’s second year debating, and she enjoys debate because of the new skills that it teaches her.

“I like it because it’s fun to do and to learn about different topics and develop your speaking and thinking and arguing skills, so I think it’s kind of fun to just go on and try to argue with somebody,” Barone said.
