The French Honor Society Initiation took place April 10. The Initiation is an annual ceremony where new members of FHS are welcomed by passing around a candle and talking about the importance of the French language in their lives.

The candle passing represents “passing on the torch” to new members and was a ceremony that took place in ancient Greece.

The FHS was founded in 1949 and welcomed 21 new members this year. During the ceremony, several existing officers gave speeches and another sang “La Vie en rose,” a popular song written by French singer Édith Piaf in 1945.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the famous French song “Les Champs-Élysées,” written by Joe Dassin.
