Most teachers have shelves filled with books in their classrooms; history teacher Mike Egner, however, has bobble heads. About eight years ago, Egner bought his first bobble head, a president, at TNT garage sale. His collection has since grown to 58. At first, Egner collected president bobble heads for the classroom to fill his shelves with something interesting. The collection soon expanded to other famous figures, including the Statue of Liberty, Uncle Sam, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sarah Palin.
Egner’s large bobble head collection has gained recognition by the students, some even taking bobble head Sigmund Freud on a trip to Kairos, a senior retreat. Freud returned to Egner’s room with a Kairos necklace, becoming a member of STA faith community. While discussing the bobble head collection Egner said if he could be a bobble head, he would be Benjamin Franklin because he is a jack-of-all-trades. However, Franklin is not his favorite; Egner has no favorite bobble head because he likes them all and wants to entertain the students. The next time you are in Egner’s classroom, be sure to check out the shelves of bobble heads and appreciate the change of scenery.
