Sophomore Genesis Jeffries is hosting a Black History Month movie marathon every activity period in Windmoor D throughout the month of February. The marathon kicked off with Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog,” the only Disney film featuring an African-American princess. Jeffries came up with the idea for the marathon and plans to organize more events honoring black history in the future.

“Our school really doesn’t have a black history program,” Jeffries said. “I wanted to start something new and original that will grow over the next two years.”

The first two screenings Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 brought students of all grades. The classroom was overflowing with people using all available chairs and sitting on any open floor space. Sophomore Ava Lee enjoyed her time watching a movie and eating lunch with her friends in a calm environment.

“It’s a good de-stresser before this big test week I have coming up,” Lee said. “It’s just fun.”
