Students gathered in the auditorium of M&A last Friday on Sept. 15 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Two groups of dancers represented Spain and Peru.

The group representing Spain, Ole’ Music & Dance of Spain, performed three dances and had five dancers. The dancers performed three traditional dances from Spain.

The first was Alegrias, the most popular of flamenco dance. Then, they performed the Tango, which has a lively and heavily accented rhythm. Their final dance was Bulerias, which traditionally finishes off get-togethers in Spain. They also danced with Garcia Gil and her friend, Esperanza Montesinos, in a dance called Sevillanas.

The second group of three dancers, Sabor a Peru, performed a dance known as Tondero, one of the most traditional expressions from the coast of Peru.
