Sushi Showdown

This week, I ate raw fish for three days in a row. Now you can see where I get my favorite sushi in KC.

Hey everyone! Despite the fact that I have no clue how to correctly hold chopsticks, I love sushi so much that I ate it three days in a row. Take a look to see where I usually go to get some of the best sushi in Kansas City!

#1 Nara

What I got: The Mango Tango Roll, the Vegas Roll, the Sexy Mama Roll, the Forbidden Apple Roll and the Mr. Dandy Roll

Nara has been one of my favorite sushi places for a while, so this time I decided to order some extremely bizarre rolls. With crispy tempura alligator meat, the Mr. Dandy roll has to be the weirdest sushi I’ve ever had. Having never eaten alligator meat, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it tastes exactly like a chicken nugget. I also think that the Forbidden Apple Roll was the best sushi I have ever tried. Somehow, apple, mango, crab, shrimp, avocado, cucumber and peanut sauce made the perfect combination.

#2 Friends Sushi and Bento Place

What I got: The Spicy Tuna Roll, the BBQ Eel Roll, the Rainbow Roll, the Dynamite Roll, the Vegas Roll and the Friends Roll

In accordance with the restaurant’s name, I usually go to Friends with friends because their servings are always huge. Totally forgetting about this, we ordered way too much food. The best roll, out of many, was surprisingly the BBQ Eel roll.  The barbecue part of the roll was only the sweet sauce drizzled on top, so that combined with the eel didn’t taste as weird as you might think.

#3 RA Sushi Bar Restaurant

What I got: The Eel Cucumber Roll, the Spicy Yellowtail Roll and the Crunchy Calamari Roll

RA is known for being a swanky Japanese fusion restaurant, so if you’re ever looking for a cool sushi restaurant with a huge menu, this place is perfect! My favorite roll out of the three that I got was the Crunchy Calamari Roll. Fried calamari is one of my all time favorite foods, so combining it with crab, cream cheese, green tempura bits and sweet eel sauce made it even better.
