Teachers close for one activity

Teachers are open for one activity everyday, as opposed to both in the past. This change came from the suggestion of English teacher Kate Absher.

Starting this semester, teachers will be open during activity one or activity two. In the past, teachers have generally been open for both activities. This rule has been enacted to allow teachers to have some quiet time and give them time to eat their lunches.

“Honestly, who doesn’t need a break in the middle of the day to eat, hit the bathroom without thinking of the liability in your classroom, chat with friends, and have meetings that we don’t normally have the time for,” English teacher, Kate Absher wrote.

Science teacher Taylor Scott believes that this is a good thing for teachers because they are able to get to get some work done or set aside time to talk to other teachers about non school related topics.

“The science department is going to have lunch together once a month and just talk about Conner’s grandchild or Stranz’s baby,” Scott said.

Some students are not very happy because they want to be able to stay in the same room during both activities to get homework done.

“I don’t want to have to pack up and go to another room to finish my work because once I stop I might not start up again because I get distracted,” junior Claire Witt said.

Absher hopes that students will think of the teachers as more than just their teachers and understand the they need breaks too.

“I would employ the students of STA to consider their teachers as people first,”Absher wrote. And you know how frustrated you get when a teacher assigns group work and doesn’t give you any time to get together, presuming that you will have frees that line up? It’s the same kind of deal when we’re asked to collaborate with colleagues.”
