Izzy Knows Best: Introduction

Welcome to my blog!

by Isabel Shorter, Staff Writer

Hi, my name is Isabel Shorter, or as some of you may know me as, Izzy. Because this is an “advice blog”, I’m going to be blatantly honest with all of you starting now. No one really calls me Izzy anymore, I just thought it sounded a bit catchier than Isabel. That being said, this is my first blog post, and throughout the year I will be answering the questions that you, the readers, ask me anonymously or not anonymously in the comment section below my latest blog post. I will be answering questions on anything from advice on where the best spot to buy your homecoming dress is to how to get so insanely organized in school that you’ll never go to sleep past nine again. You ask it, I answer it.

But let’s be real with each other, who am I to give advice to you? I’m just some random sophomore who thinks she knows best, right? Wrong. I don’t know what’s best, but I do know how to imagine someone else’s situation by putting myself into their shoes and figuring out a solution. For some this is hard, but for me, it’s one of the few things that is pure instinct.

Ever since I was little, my friends have always come to me for advice because of this instinct I have. Even today, almost a decade later, my friends ask me to write out that convincing text to their parents when they’re in an argument or for advice on what to tell their boyfriend to set him straight but in a mature way, even though I’ve never had a boyfriend. I may be used to giving advice, but I’m not complaining. I love giving advice because of the intense problem solving and then the anticipated relief of helping someone fix whatever it is that needed fixing. That’s what I’m here to do. I may not “know best”, but I can sure as heck try my best to help you fix what needs fixing.

Sincerely, Isabel
