With the recent series finale of Parks and Recreation and our loss of Leslie Knope, Ben Wyatt and Ron Swanson, comedy lovers have been at a loss in the television department. Never fear, friends: Netflix is here.

Netflix debuted season one of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a new series starring Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, March 6. The show is created by the oh-so-lovely Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, who have both worked on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock; of course anything they create will be hilarious.

A simple synopsis: Kimmy Schmidt has just been rescued from an underground cult she and three other women were living in for 15 years. She has no knowledge of the outside world because, well, she thought the apocalypse came and everything was destroyed. After these “mole women” are saved, she decides to move out of small town Durnsville, Ind. to New York City. Desperately trying to disguise her “mole woman” identity, Kimmy finds a roommate, Titus Andromedon, played by Tituss Burgess, and finds a job working as an assistant and nanny for Jacqueline Voorhees, played by Jane Krakowski. Kimmy tries to shed her former cult identity and become a normal functioning adult in New York City. Along her journey she works towards her GED, falls in and out of love and realizes that life in the real world is drastically different from life in a bunker.

This show is absolutely hilarious. It is filled with satirical stereotyping that makes the audience laugh and realize how demoralizing stereotyping is to human beings.

While Kimmy’s life may not be the most relatable – I mean, how many people have you met who lived in a bunker for 15 years? –  it is entertaining. This show is pure joy and I cannot wait until 2016 when season two premieres.

Every episode is laugh-out-loud funny and leaves you desperately waiting for the next episode to load. I can say with confidence that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will satisfy the loss of other great comedy shows such as Parks and Recreation, The Office and 30 Rock.
