Sixteen members of the STA track team competed at the 87th annual University of Kansas Relay Meet April 18 and 19. Junior Ann Campbell qualified for the finals races in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs, finishing 6th and 8th, respectively.

Sophomore Emily Laird described the relay meet as one of the team’s most important competitions, behind Districts, Sectionals, and State.
According to Laird, there are certain times required in order to compete.
“Getting to [compete at] KU is like always my goal every year,” senior Giggy Reardon said. “I’m sure its the same for the rest of the team… even just getting into the meet is like good enough for us.”
According to Reardon, the meet is important because it is bigger and more competitive than most of the track team’s meets.
Competitors included high schools from Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Arkansas, and other Midwestern states.
“I think the competition really helps the top runners see where they are for districts,” sophomore Emily Laird said. “We all knew there was some tough competition, so a lot of us were working on getting our personal times down.”
The meet, according to Reardon, was a success.
“I think everyone was pretty glad with how they did,” Reardon said.
