Madeline Meloy, a junior, earned a composite score of 36 on her ACT, according to the St. Teresa’s Academy website. Less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT achieve this score. Only 1,162 students out of 1.8 million who graduated high school in 2013 received a 36, according to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet official website. The ACT is a placement exam for college courses, in addition to being a major factor in college acceptance. English, math, reading and science are included in the test, in addition to an optional writing section that is not factored into the composite score.
“We are so proud of Madeline and her incredible accomplishment. Her exceptional ACT score will be extremely helpful as she pursues her future goals in higher education,” STA president Nan Bone, quoted on the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet official website, said.
Meloy doesn’t know where she wants to go to college.
“Its wide open right now,” she said.
