President Nan Bone announced the Academy Woman nominees to the student body Jan. 27. The senior class and faculty members nominated seniors Emma Allen, Abbey Haines and Katie Hornbeck for the award. The award recognizes a student for outstanding moral character, leadership, sense of responsibility, loyalty to STA, school spirit, service to others, sportsmanship, cooperation, helpfulness and ability to command respect.

According to nominee Katie Hornbeck, the announcement surprised her.

“I was so surprised, I really didn’t think I was going to be nominated,” Hornbeck said. “I was sitting in the same room as Emma Allen [during the announcement] and we were just staring at each other in shock.”

Hornbeck believes the other two are highly deserving of the award.

“They’re both super nice and just happy people,” Hornbeck said. “Abbey is really outgoing and Emma is really sweet and dedicated to service.”

Out of the three nominees, the winner of the Academy Woman award will be chosen and announced at an assembly April 23.
