What type of art do you create?
“I work with drawing and graphic design. I took Computer Illustration with Mrs. Hamilton last semester, and now I’m in Illustration with Mrs. Wallerstedt. This year I’ve been doodling a lot of characters, patterns, and poster designs in my notebooks.”
How did you get started/interested in art?
“I’ve always loved making things. When I was little, I drew all the time. When I started taking classes at STA, I realized how much I looked forward to going to the art room every day, and now it’s something I can’t live without.”
Where do you find inspiration for your projects?
“I find inspiration for projects everywhere. Whether or not I ever finish the project is another story. I have so many post-its and Google docs with images or reminders for projects.”
What’s the hardest thing about drawing?
“The hardest thing about drawing is trying to figure out what your ‘style’ is and develop it, instead of just mimicking other artists.”
What’s your favorite thing about drawing?
“My favorite thing about drawing is seeing a piece come together, from lines and colors you’ve chosen into an image you’re really proud of.”
Who are your favorite artists?
“I love Vincent van Gogh and Georgia O’Keeffe. I also really like installation art, two contemporary artists I like are Olafur Eliasson and Gabriel Dawe, who both play with the way viewers see light.”
Do you plan to pursue art in the future?
“I want to pursue architecture, which is an art, but I also hope to take fine arts courses or studio hours in college.”
What are your favorite things to draw/paint?
“To be honest, I tend to like bright colors, sharp lines, and patterns more than any particular subject or scene in my art.”
