The Teresian yearbook from 2011, titled Rewired, earned the top national award from the largest student press organization during a national convention April 14. The Pacemaker award, reserved for the top 27 high school yearbooks, went to a Teresian staff led by editors in chief and 2011 alums Elle Rauch and Colleen Corcoran. The national convention in Seattle was sponsored by the National Scholastic Press Association and the Journalism Education Association.
According to NSPA website, “since 1927, NSPA’s Pacemaker competition has been considered by many to be student journalism’s highest honor.” The website also lists the criteria as being the following: writing/editing, design, content, concept, photography, art and graphics.
DartNewsOnline, STA’s student news site, was also a finalist for a Pacemaker, but was not listed among the more selective Pacemaker websites.
For the 2010 yearbook, the Teresian yearbook earned a Pacemaker finalist nomination, the first such nomination before this year. The publications staffs at STA have earned one previous Pacemaker award for DartNewsOnline during the first year of its existence.
