Da Pub
After coming up with the idea at Chipotle, seniors Jordan Berardi and Bailey Whitehead wrote and directed Da Pub for student productions April 26. Da Pub tells the story of taxi drivers as each they recount their day at a bar.
Berardi did more of the stage directions while Whitehead wrote most of the play.
“Our production had a lot of really intense accents that had to be accurate to how they actually sound, so we were looking for people who actually could do accents,” Berardi said.
According to Berardi, an important aspect they were looking for in the actors was interaction and improvisation.
“We were nervous, but also really excited because when we had been practicing the week before there was a lot of things that would happen that weren’t necessarily in the script and they were really funny,” Jordan Berardi said. “We were excited to see what would happen.”
During the performance a child started crying and taxi driver Maggie Bowen commented on the child in the audience.
How not to get into college
Seniors Emmie McCabe and Rachel Moran co-wrote How Not to Get into College after McCabe’s personal experiences.
“I have gotten in various accidents on my way to college interviews and I told [Moran] one day that I thought it would be a good idea if we put them all together in the show,” McCabe said.
The production follows Alex as she faces multiple challenges on her way to a college interview in Chicago.
“Some jokes were [Moran’s], some were mine,” McCabe said. “We mostly just sat down and wrote the plot arch … we both came up with the stuff.”
The night of the performance, McCabe felt everyone was ready for the show.
“I was so proud of them, the actors, they made it,” Emmie McCabe. “It was so good.”
Cookies for Crazies
Madeline Best and Kelly Fletcher both wrote and directed Cookies for Crazies, which follows girl scouts as they attempt to outsell each other for a bike.
“We always knew that we wanted to do something where people were going up to the door of random strange people, but we weren’t sure what we were going to use as our outlet,” Fletcher said.
Originally Best and Fletcher were going to write about the DMV, but upon their friends’ suggestions they decided to make the production’s focus Girl Scouts. For their production, they needed Girl Scout cookie boxes as props.
“One day I was sitting in math class and I asked someone and everyone heard me and then the next day Ms. Weller brought me a couple boxes,” Fletcher said.
Fletcher was nervous about giving an introduction for the show, but in the end she thinks the performance was a success.
“I figured it would go well, because they have been doing a really good job during rehearsal,” Fletcher said.
