STA held their annual Scream Fest Dec. 13. Held around finals week, Scream Fest allows students to scream as loud as they want to alleviate their stress about final exams.
Advisors and their students celebrate Christmas at the Academy with annual advisory parties that usually occur the last week of school before fall finals. Many advisories bond over different holiday traditions, such as gift exchanges or watching traditional Christmas movies together.
STA held the Winter Choir Concert in the auditorium on Dec. 11. Mr. Monsma conducted the pianist, cellist, and the choirs. They sang a variety of traditional and non-traditional Christmas songs.
Saturday December 6th, the annual Christmas Dance was held in the Goppert Center. Students from several different high schools dressed in togas to support the theme: Christmas in Athens.
Shawnee Mission East senior Tyler Rathbun was tragically killed in an ATV accident Nov. 25. Rathbun was the star soccer player for SME's varsity team, having beat his coach's record of 16 goals in a season. Rathbun achieved a record of 22 goals this past season. Rathbun will be forever remembered and terribly missed by all his loved ones. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Rathbun family, as well as Shawnee Mission East.
