In my opinion, nachos are an appetizer that you can rarely go wrong with. The tortilla chips, salsa, cheese, beans, guacamole and chicken or beef encompass almost every food group and come together to make something everybody has to love. This week I went to three Mexican restaurants with the most talked about nachos to test them out. Keep reading to see what I thought!
#1 Rudy’s Tenampa Taqueria
What I got: Nachos Tenampa with shredded chicken
This restaurant has been my go to Mexican food place for years and the nachos have never failed to impress. The plate is piled high with greasy, salty chips and smothered with the perfect amount of cheddar cheese. The dollop of guacamole adds a creamy texture to the nachos and the jalapenos give each bite a kick of flavor. The size of these nachos is also pretty big, so make sure to bring a few friends to enjoy this huge appetizer together.
#2 Pancho’s Mexican Food
What I got: Super Nachos
When I first saw this Mexican fast food joint I didn’t expect it to be much, but after eating their nachos I can see why this place is so heavily praised. The crunchy, fresh chips are covered in a copious amount of beef, sprinkled with cheddar cheese and doused in guacamole and sour cream. My favorite part of these nachos had to be the Pico de Gallo because it gave the dish a little bit more flavor compared to nachos that only have plain tomatoes or salsa. Also, Pancho’s is open 24 hours a day so you can enjoy these delicious nachos at any time you’d like.
#3 Cancun Fiesta Fresh
What I got: Nachos with chicken
After hearing great things about this restaurant, I was extremely disappointed in their nachos. The chips were dry and unsalted. The cheese was cold and way too liquidy. The refried beans tasted out of place combined with all the other ingredients and, once again, cold. There was also not enough toppings to even cover the amount of chips that were served. The only redeemable quality about this dish was the guacamole.
