The STA varsity soccer team defeated the Liberty High School Blue Jays 3-0 in the first round of the State Sectional tournament.
At the end of the first half, the score was tied 0-0. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, junior Savannah Trujillo sent the ball into the net from a corner kick. Junior Jellie Duckworth scored the next goal, leaving the score 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining. Trujillo scored another goal on a one-on-one with the Jays’ goalie, putting the Stars up 3-0.
The Stars will take on the Lee’s Summit West Titans at Lee’s Summit West High School Saturday May 25. The Titans have a 22-2-1 record for the season and narrowly defeated the Blue Springs Wildcats 3-2 in one overtime to advance to the second round of Sectionals. The winner of this game will play in the State tournament May 31 at Blue Springs South High School.
