The cross country team participated in a meet in St. Louis last Saturday morning, and both JV and varsity placed first. Not only did the team do well as a whole, but individually runners did well too.
According to freshman Hayden Lee, who placed first overall for JV, the course at the Hazelwood Central Paul Enke Invitational was challenging.
“[The course was] really tough, it had three huge hills,” Lee said. “One was called the Man Maker, which was 500 feet tall.”
Varsity runner sophomore Katie Hornbeck, who placed 4th for STA and 24th overall, agreed that the course was tough calling the Man Maker ‘very steep’, but she explained despite the hard course everyone knew STA could do well.
“I think we knew both [JV and varsity] would do well, but we didn’t necessarily know varsity was going to win so we did especially well,” Hornbeck said.
According to Lee, Coach Karen Moran was very proud of the whole team.
“Our coach knew we could do it she told us we were going to win it, but I think this was the first time we won in both [JV and Varsity] so our team did really well,” Lee said.
