The beginning.
“I started my blog in my senior year of college and it really took off when I studied abroad in Oxford, England. My fashion hadn’t been like top of the game until that point and then I started seeing all the cheap clothing that they have there but it’s also beautiful clothing.”

Naming the blog.
“It’s History and High Heels because those are two things I am just really passionate about. I’m one of those people where I feel like everyone should be enjoying history because it’s just stories and I love stories so bringing that in with my love of fashion and dressing nicely, it was just an easy fit to go together.”

A defining moment.
“I was walking down the street in Oxford and there was this guy and he was wearing this skin tight white jumpsuit and then he had like glittery face paint and white antlers. He was just walking down the street and no one in Oxford looked at him, no one stared at him, they just didn’t pay attention and didn’t give him a second glance. So I was like you know what, if he can rock that, I can wear whatever I want. I just started trying to hone in on my style and writing my fashion blog just became something that was a creative outlet for me.”

Coming to STA.
“I worked at a company called My Q Logistics, which is like a trucking company. It was my first job out of college and it was one of those jobs that made me realize I needed to do something different because it was definitely not my thing. It gave me a lot of time to really push myself to figure out what I wanted to do in life. I had always wanted to be an educator but it really showed me that education was what I needed to go for.”

Keeping it alive.
“It’s been almost three and a half years. I just keep receiving a lot of good feedback on it. Whenever, I’m out and my friends or acquaintances, they’re always commenting on how they love my blog. I’ve also been published in a couple magazines so just the fact that I’ve gotten so many good reviews about it. Plus, even if all that wasn’t happening, I’m doing it for me, it’s my creative outlet.”

In the future.
“In general, I think St. Teresa’s is going to allow me to hone my craft as a professional. I feel like you students will challenge me to think about what I’m doing and making sure my discussion questions are good and thought provoking. I’ve already had so many good conversations in these first few weeks within my classes and it’s just amazing to see that. So it’s just going to continue to push me to be better and better as a teacher.”
