Seniors Emily McCann and Jackie McGee competed in the MSHSAA State Golf Tournament on Monday Oct. 15 and Tuesday Oct. 16 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. According to mshsaa.org, McCann tied for 15th place and earned all-state honors while McGee tied for 52nd place. Despite McCann and McGee’s performances, the golf team did not make it past the District tournament. McGee was still content even though the team did not qualify.
“They reassigned our district this year so going into Districs we knew it would be tougher to get to state than it was last year,” McGee said. “It would have been really fun if everyone had gone as a team, but it was still a great experience.”
McGee says that she prepared both with the team and by herself for the State series.
“We had practice the week leading up to state, but I also went to the range on my own to prepare,” McGee said. “Putting was my main difficulty during sectionals, so I spent a lot of time on the putting clock.”
McCannand McGee have been playing golf together since their freshman year. McGee says that competing at State with McCann was a good way to end the season.
“Emily and I started as the only two freshman on the golf team four years ago,” McGee said. “So it was really fun to end our highschool careers together.”
