The STA Tennis team defeated Notre Dame de Sion High School for the first time in seven years this past season.

The score of the match against the Storm was 5-4. According to varsity assistant coach Janice Redlingshafer, the team came together to pull off the victory.

“There was a definite team effort and everyone was 100% determined,” Redlingshafer said.

In junior Grace Wells’ opinion, Sion has not lost any key players. Rather, STA has developed as a team.

“Our doubles is really strong,” Wells said. “The first time that we beat them it kind of came down to doubles, and the way [Sion] has their doubles lined up it made them easier to beat.”

Wells says that the addition of freshman Meghan King has contributed to the team’s success. Wells and King were doubles partners for the match against Sion.

“The second [game] Meghan King and I were playing doubles, and we beat them 10-5 in the super tiebreaker,” Wells said. “We’re too legit to quit.”

This victory makes Wells and the rest of the varsity tennis team hopeful for next season.

“It was obviously friendly competition, but it just feels so good to beat them, for real,” Wells said. “It makes us hopeful for next season because we’ve beat them twice. Now we just feel like we can do it again.”
